Carbon Offsetting

Even when reducing energy use and switching to renewable energy, some greenhouse gas emissions are hard to eliminate. Emissions that cannot be avoided, can be neutralized by engaging in emission reduction somewhere else.

Compensate your carbon emissions by investing in projects with high environmental added value.

Carbon offsetting is the practice of funding the reduction or capture of carbon emissions outside of one’s organization - for example through reforestation projects. There are carbon offsetting projects all over the planet, and many contribute to a number of the UN’s Social Development Goals (SDGs) in addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. If you offset the equivalent of what you emit, your net emissions is zero and you will be "carbon neutral".

Carbon offsetting gives you the possibility to redeem your emissions and to be carbon neutral. It should not be an alternative to reducing or limiting emissions, but on the contrary, a motivation for it: once you are calculating and monitoring your emissions, action is easier, and having to pay for the remaining emissions pushes the alignment of your economic goals with your sustainability goals. Meanwhile, carbon projects are a great CSR effort that can improve life conditions in developing countries and engage your employees and stakeholders in doing so.
